Magnolia Slope

This slope was originally used for agricultural purposes. Many of the older magnolias were planted by John Morris, six of those survive today. (ca. 1991) However, most of the magnolia collection was planted under the direction of John Fogg Jr., the Arboretum's Director from 1959-1966. Fogg, a founder of the National Magnolia Society, planned the diverse slope plantings in 1960 and they are still an actively growing part of the Arboretum's collection.
