Annuals If you are searching for unusual foliage plants try the fabulous umbrella sedge (Cyperus involucratus), which you may have seen growing in the Arboretum’s Rose Garden in recent years. This tender perennial can grow 4 to 6’ in one season and is a close relative of the Egyptian papyrus, which it resembles. For those who want a more diminutive plant we will also have some of the dwarf papyrus (Cyperus prolifer), which will top out closer to 24”. Because of popular demand we will be offering several types of annual vines this year, including hyacinth bean (Dolichos lablab) and black-eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia alata) to name just a few. And for that special container or spot in the shade look for the exquisite new Thai caladiums, come early for the best selection. |
