The Arboretum's streamsides are home to many creatures, including the aquatic bullfrog. Lorraine Vail's sculpted bullfrog is unmoved by our presence as he surveys the world through narrowed eyelids. The artist skillfully captured both his likeness and distinctive personality, as if he had sat for his portrait. Vail rendered him in a gigantic scale, "to give the viewer a 'small' feeling in the environment," After sculpting the form in clay, and creating a plaster mold, the sculptor made this unique cast from polyester resin, fiberglass, and bronze grindings.
