Major Trees

Greek fir
Abies cephalonica

32-0696-A
Height: 105
Spread: 39
DBH: 38.5

Native to Greece. Another excellent fir for our region, this fir is native to the mountains of Greece. The Greek fir is a very rare plant, seen only at a few botanic gardens but worthy of further use. A number of Mediterranean plants are well-adapted to growing in our area, but they are mostly underutilized. Planted by the Morrisses with several other conifers, this group of plants provide a wonderful backdrop to the colorful Pennock Walk. The Arboretum has recently been approved to hold a national collection of firs, and this tree is one of our many historic specimens.
