Weeping European beech
Fagus sylvatica f. pendula
32-0409-A
Height: 60 feet (1993)
Spread: 90 feet
DBH: 2.8 feet

Horticultural variety, native to Europe. Walk inside the curtain-like ring of branches and you will be transported into a small green world. Planted before 1909 by the Morrises the branches of this beech have "wept" down and formed roots where they touch the ground. As the branches form roots, the sprout upwards, and the tree has formed new rings of trees and is marching outward as the center ages and decays.
