Wetland Resoration Project

When you drive in the Arboretum front gate, the recently-developed area on your right as you cross the stream is our newest project in natural lands management and restoration. In the early 1900's John Morris installed drainage tiles in the meadows so he could better graze cattle. The current project has re-created the pre-existing wetland as a demonstration of best management practices for our floodplain.
Funded by state and federal agencies, local foundations and generous individuals, the area has been planted using suitable native plants. In time, it will become a sanctuary for plants, wildlife and nature lovers.
