About Our Organization

The Computer Connection is operated by the University through its Division of Business Services. Consistent with the mission of the overall division, our underlying philosophy is to provide our clients with high quality service in a fiscally responsible manner. We fulfill this mission by providing convenient purchasing options and also by regularly attractively priced products that are aligned with Penn's recommended technology standards.

The Computer Connection derives revenue from the sale of computers, peripherals and software to eligible purchasers including Penn students, faculty and staff. As is the case with most retail establishments, we also receive payments in the form of rebates provided from manufacturers and suppliers of the products we sell.

Eligibility to Purchase

A valid, full-time University of Pennsylvania, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Presbyterian Medical Center, or Pennsylvania Hospital identification is required to determine eligibility to purchase. All reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of the data contained herein at the time of posting. Prices, specifications, and availability are subject to change without notice. Errors are subject to our correction. Sales tax not included in listed prices.

Purchasing

Certain vendor agreement and other policies limit the sale of certain items to eligible purchasers. In general, an eligible purchaser is University of Pennsylvania faculty, full-time staff, or student enrolled in a degree or certificate program, or employees of affiliated hospitals and institutions are eligible to make purchases at Computer Connection. Eligibility must be verifiable; other policies may apply. Eligibility to purchase is subject to management approval.

Hardware and software are available to faculty and full-time staff of the University of Pennsylvania (U of PA), Hospital of the University (HUP), and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). University of Pennsylvania students enrolled in a course of study leading to degree or certificate and students who have graduated from high school, accepted and signed a letter of intent to enroll and submitted a non-refundable deposit.

Apple Computer
Faculty, Staff and Students purchasing from Apple computer products with personal funds will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of product per academic school year (July 1 through the following June 30):

  • Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
  • Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
  • Laptop: One (1) may be purchased per academic year
  • Display: A maximum of two (2) may be purchased per academic year
  • Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per academic year

Dell Marketing
Eligible faculty, students and staff may purchase one desktop and one notebook, per model for their personal use during their affiliation with U of PA, HUP and CHOP.

IBM/Lenovo
Eligible faculty, students and staff may purchase no more than one notebook computer, one desktop computer, and one display per Academic year (July 1-June 30). Verified Penn Alumni may also be eligible to purchase.

Hewlett-Packard
Eligible faculty, students and staff may purchase one printer per model for their personal use during their affiliation with U of PA, HUP and CHOP.

Special Orders

For any item(s) not in stock at the time you place your order: please note that the selling price quoted to you by the Penn Computer Connection is an estimate. We will make every effort to honor the quoted price, but cannot guarantee pricing for products that are not in stock at the time your order is placed. As always, prices, products, availability, and specifications are subject to change and/or our correction.

Return Policy

Computer software, supplies, and accessories may be returned within ten business days of purchase if in the original sealed package (unopened) and with original store receipt. (Products must be of the current version or model). Opened products are not returnable. Defective products will be handled in accordance with the manufacturer's warranty. Products inoperable upon first use have specific policies that vary with each manufacturer or distributor. Depending on the product, the item is either eligible for repair under warranty or may be exchanged for the same item. Requests for all returns must occur within 10 days of purchase. A restocking fee of at least 20% may apply to returns accepted outside the above guidelines. All returns are subject to approval by Computer Connection management staff. Depending on the particular product, other policies may apply.

Terms & Conditions of Sale

The Computer Connection makes no express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for particular purpose other than to provide the manufacturer's warranties. The Computer Connection shall have no liability for any consequential, incidental or special damages and the Computer Connection’s sole liability shall be to accept return of the product in accordance with its standard return policy. Individuals purchasing product(s) represent and warrant that the product(s) is intended for his/her own use and that the product is not being purchased for further resale. This sale is subject to the University of Pennsylvania’s standard Terms and Conditions. Sales tax not included in prices listed. Prices, products, availability, and specifications are subject to change and/or our correction without notice.

Payment Options

For sales to individual Faculty, Staff and Students, the Computer Connection accepts cash, personal checks and credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Students may also bill transactions to their Student Financial Services account using their PennCard, and they may using PennCash.
