Residential Program Process
- What is a Residential Program?
- Residential Programs are living environments that allow for students and faculty who share a passion for a particular subject to live and learn together.
- Where can I live in a Residential Program?
- All 11 of the College Houses have a variety of Residential Programs. For a complete list of Residential Programs click here.
- Gregory, Du Bois, and Stouffer College Houses foster communities similar to Residential Programs. Returning residents and students interested in one of these Residential Programs within the Houses should apply during the Residential Program process.
- Am I eligible?
- You must be a full-time undergraduate student in a degree granting program

- All applicants are required to respond to the following questions in an essay using a maximum of 500 words:
- Why are you interested in joining this Residential Program?
- What would your involvement bring to this program’s overall experience?
- How have you participated in your current House community?
- All required essays and information must be completed in order to be considered for a specific Residential Program.
- How do I request a roommate?
- You may request a roommate but they must also be accepted into the Residential Program. Roommate requests must be mutual.
- Roommate requests are not guaranteed.
- What is Gender Neutral Housing?
- Both male and female students can comprise a group if they all elect to be part of a gender neutral housing group.
- Students that are interested in Gender Neutral Housing must select “yes” when asked if they are interested in gender neutral housing.
- When you opt to become a gender neutral group your room selection gender becomes N (neutral). You can only select rooms with other gender neutral students.
- If you wish to change your room assignment gender at any time after you submit your application you will need to contact the Assignments Office.
- How do I apply for a Residential Program?
- To apply for a Residential Program log on to My Home At Penn between January 11, 9AM, and January 20, Noon, to submit your application.
- You may apply for up to 2 Residential Programs.
- How is my application decision for a Residential Program made?
- House Deans will review applications and make a decision regarding your acceptance and room assignment into a specific Residential Program.
- If you are not accepted into your first choice, the House Dean of your second choice will review your application and consider you for their program.
- You will be notified by February 1 if you have been accepted into a Residential Program as well as your room assignment within that program.
- How is my room assigned?
- House Deans will assign students their room in a Residential Program.
- Please make sure to include room type preference(s) and roommate requests on your application. When possible your preferences will be taken into account but are not guaranteed.
- What are the important dates and deadlines?
- January 11: Applications are available beginning at 9AM. To complete your application go to My Home At Penn
- January 20: Applications must be submitted by Noon.
- February 1: Assignments regarding acceptance into a program and room assignment are available at My Home At Penn. Click on the Room Assignments Details step to view your room assignment.
- How do I cancel my room assignment?
- Once you are assigned a space you can cancel your room space at My Home At Penn and a cancellation fee will apply.
