South Street Bridge Closure between the Fall of 2008 and Fall of 2010
The City of Philadelphia has notified the University of Pennsylvania that the South Street Bridge will close for reconstruction at 9:30 AM on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008. The bridge will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC, including pedestrians, bicycles and cars.
The closure of this important access point to University City will result in many changes to traffic patterns, signs and signals, and volume in the vicinity of campus. Please adjust your commute accordingly. A website has been developed (www.publicsafety.upenn.edu/ssbridge) which provides information about the project and includes recommended maps, routes and detours for those traveling to campus by automobile, as well as useful information on alternative modes of transportation.

On Foot
Walk to the West end of the Class of 1923 Ice Rink on Walnut Street and take the stairs down to the parking lot. Walk to the lower level entrance on the East end (facing Center City) of the Rink.
By Car
From the Ben Franklin Bridge:
Take 676 West to the International Airport Exit. Take exit, move into the right lane and go up the ramp to 30th Street Station. At the top of the ramp, turn right. Go around the station until Market Street. Turn right onto Market Street, drive four blocks. Turn left onto 34th Street. Drive one city block and turn left onto Chestnut Street. Drive three blocks and turn right onto 31st Street. Drive one city block and turn right at the stop sign into our driveway. Drive forward 30 yards. You are now at the front entrance of the Rink. You may park along the driveway around the building.
From the Walt Whitman Bridge:
Take 76 West to the 30th Street/Market Exit. Exit right and continue straight through the light. Turn left onto Market Street at the second light (across from the 30th Street Train Station). Continue West on Market for four blocks and make a left onto 34th Street. Drive one block and turn left onto Chestnut Street. Drive three blocks and turn right onto 31st Street (directly underneath the Drexel train bridge). Drive one block and turn right at the stop sign into our driveway. Drive forward 30 yards. You are now at the front entrance of the Rink. You may park along the driveway around the building.
From the Northeast:
Take I-95 South until 676 West exit. Take 676 West to the International Airport Exit. Take exit, move into the right lane and go up the ramp to 30th Street Station. From the South:
Take I-95 North to the Route 291 West/Central Philadelphia exit. Take exit and drive over the Platt Bridge. After the bridge turn left onto 76 West. Take 76 West to the 30th Street/Market Exit. Exit Right and continue straight through the light. Turn left onto Market Street at the second light (across from 30th Street Train Station). Continue West on Market for four blocks and make a left onto 34th Street. Drive one block and turn left onto Chestnut Street. Drive three blocks and turn right onto 31st Street (directly underneath the Drexel train bridge). Drive one block and turn right at the stop sign into our driveway. Drive forward 30 yards. You are now at the front entrance of the Rink. You may park along the driveway around the building.
From the West:
Take 76 East / Schuylkill Expressway until the 30th Street Station exit. Go up the exit ramp towards 30th Street Station. At the top of the ramp, turn right. Go around the station until Market Street. Turn right onto Market Street, drive four blocks. Turn left onto 34th Street. Drive one city block and turn left onto Chestnut Street. Drive three blocks and turn right onto 31st Street. Drive one city block and turn right at the stop sign into our driveway. Drive forward 30 yards. You are now at the front entrance of the Rink. You may park along the driveway around the building.
