USPS ADDRESSING REQUIREMENTS The United States Postal Service (USPS) has specific requirements governing mail addressing. USPS has introduced new bottom up address scanning, where the SECOND line from the bottom of the address is scanned for the exact location. All University incoming mail must conform to the current USPS addressing standards. Below are examples of proper automation compatible addresses. To expedite mail delivery on campus, the zip+4 code must be used.

INTRAMURAL ADDRESSES: For a list of Penn intramural addresses, click here. These addresses are used when sending mail within the University.

EXTERNAL POSTAL ADDRESSES: In addition to ensuring that mail is properly formatted, it is also important to use the address that has been assigned to you by the USPS. Penn Mail Services has worked closely with the USPS to review all University addresses and will be contacting each department shortly where a change to the existing campus address is required.
