Lead-Based Paint Disclosure Information
If you are renting an apartment or a home built prior to 1978, the year lead was banned from house paints and gasoline, the landlord must follow the Disclosure Rule, a federal right-to-know law, which requires sellers and landlords to disclose, notify and provide buyers and tenants with lead-based paint information. State and local ordinances may make additional provisions to the federal ordinance.
In Philadelphia:
- The landlord must attach to the lease a Lead-Based Paint Disclosure Notice.
- The landlord must provide you with a time frame (10 days) to inspect the property for lead-based paint and an opportunity to terminate lease if the inspection reveals lead based paint.
- The landlord must provide you with the pamphlet "Protect Your Family from Lead in Your Home".
