Obtaining a PennCard - Faculty
Standing Faculty
Standing Faculty who are currently being paid through the University
of Pennsylvania payroll system are entitled to a PennCard. Please use
the following procedure to obtain your Faculty PennCard:
- Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered you complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
- Bring a valid form of photo Id (driver's license, passport, etc.)
to the PennCard Center.
- You will then be issued a PennCard good for 5 years.
- There is no charge for your initial PennCard.
Standing Faculty-Clinician-Educators
Clinician- Educators at the University of Pennsylvania are entitled to
a Faculty PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain your
Faculty PennCard:
- Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered you complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
- Bring a valid form of photo Id (driver's license, passport, etc.)
to the PennCard Center.
- You will then be issued a PennCard good for 5 years.
- There is no charge for your initial PennCard.
Non-Standing Faculty Paid Through the University
Payroll System
Non-standing faculty who are currently being paid through the University
of Pennsylvania payroll system are entitled to a PennCard. Please use
the following procedure to obtain your Faculty PennCard:
- Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered you complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
- Bring a valid form of photo Id (driver's license, passport, etc.)
to the PennCard Center.
- If you would like your card to be good until the end of your appointment
you must bring your letter of appointment (which should include the
dates of your appointment) otherwise non-standing faculty are issued
a PennCard good for 1 year.
- There is no charge for your initial PennCard.
Non-Standing Faculty Not Paid Through the University
Payroll System
Non-standing faculty who are not being paid through the University of
Pennsylvania payroll system are entitled to a PennCard. Please use the
following procedure to obtain your Faculty PennCard:
- Bring your letter of appointment (which should include the dates
of your appointment), a completed PennCard Request Form, and a valid
form of photo Id (driver's license, passport, etc.) to the PennCard
Center.
- You will then be issued a PennCard for the length of your appointment
(not to exceed 2 years).
- There is a $20.00 fee for the card and this charge may be paid
by the cardholder by cash or check or the PennCard Center will bill
the cardholder's department as long as the proper 26-digit budget
code is entered on the PennCard Request Form.
Post Doctoral Fellows/Researchers
Post Doctoral fellows/Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania are
considered Academic Support staff and as such are entitled to a Faculty
PennCard with the designation of Post Doc Fellow/Researcher. Please use
the following procedure to obtain your Faculty Post Doc PennCard:
- Bring a completed PennCard Request Form, and a valid form
of photo Id (driver's license, passport, etc.) to the PennCard Center.
- Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered you complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
- You will then be issued a PennCard for one year (or length of appointment
up to 5 years if you show a copy of your appointment letter).
- There is no charge for your initial PennCard.
Faculty on Long Term Disability
Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania who are on Long Term Disability
are entitled to a PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain
your Faculty on LTD PennCard:
- Wait one University business day after your department has made the appropriate changes to your payroll record.
- Bring your current Faculty PennCard (or if your last card has already
expired bring some valid form of photo ID) to the PennCard Center.
- You will then be issued a PennCard good for 5 years.
- There is no charge for the new PennCard providing you turn in your
unexpired Faculty PennCard.
Emeritus Faculty
Emeritus Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania are entitled to a PennCard.
Please use the following procedure to obtain your Emeritus Faculty PennCard:
- Go the University's Division of Human resources office and they
will give you a form confirming your status as Emeritus Faculty.
- Bring this form along with your current Faculty PennCard (or if
your last card has already expired bring some valid form of photo
ID) to the PennCard Center.
- You will then be issued an Emeritus Faculty card good for 5 years.
- There is no charge for the card providing you turn in your unexpired
PennCard.
