PennCard Policies
The PennCard
The PennCard is the only official University of Pennsylvania
identification card for students, faculty and staff and other affiliated
members of the University community. In addition, the PennCard provides
access to a wide variety of campus services.
Use of the PennCard
The PennCard is the property of the University of Pennsylvania. You
should carry the PennCard at all times. The PennCard must be returned
upon request by University officials. Your use of the PennCard constitutes
your acceptance of the terms and conditions of all applicable Cardholder
Agreements and PennCard policies.

change for your privacy and security.
PennCash Refund Policy
PennCash refunds are only processed after graduation, termination of
employment or other extended separation from the University.
- The University reserves the right to close a PennCash Account when the Cardholder graduates or withdraws from the University (with respect to students), terminates employment (with respect to faculty/staff) or if the Cardholder’s PennCard expires (with respect to all others). A Cardholder may also notify the PennCard Center in writing requesting that the Cardholder’s PennCash Account be closed. Upon this notification, the University will issue a refund of the unused balance of Cardholder’s PennCash account. Refunds will be made either:
(1) in cash, if the amount is greater than $1 but less than $20, and the Cardholder requests the refund in person at the PennCard Center; (2) credit to Cardholder's credit card; or (3) by check, to the Cardholder's last known address.
The University reserves the right to close any PennCash Account that has been inactive for a period of twelve (12) months. The PennCash Account is automatically closed two years after the expiration date indicated on the PennCard.
- Cardholders requesting refunds of $20 or greater should submit a request to the PennCard Center via e-mail
at penncard@pobox.upenn.edu or call 215-417-CARD. Please note that the request should include
the cardholder's name, PennCard number, and mailing address.
