Licensing Options for Vista and Office 2007 Through
University of Pennsylvania’s Microsoft Select Agreement

With Vista Enterprise and Office 2007 Enterprise, Microsoft has introduced a distribution model where some products are available only to volume license customers and only with the purchase of the Software Assurance option.

Software Assurance ("SA") is an add-on that allows you to update to any new release of the software between now and July 2009, the renewal date of our Select Agreement. The license, known as "License-and-Software-Assurance" or "L&SA", costs more because of this add-on. Pricing for SA starts at the 3-year level and is reduced once each year on August 1st, until the Select Agreement renews and the 3-year cycle starts again. When the Select Agreement renews you would also renew the Software Assurance on your licenses for another 3-year term.

Microsoft also allows the purchasers of new software (whether preinstalled on a new system or purchased as a boxed set) to add SA to their license if they do so within 90 days of their purchase.
