Penn encourages the use of public transportation. To this end, the University has negotiated an agreement with the
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) enabling regular full- and part-time faculty and staff to
purchase Transpasses and Trailpasses at 10% discount through payroll deduction. This Commuter Pass (COMPASS) discount
program is made possible by a 50-50 match from the University and SEPTA.
What is a Commuter Pass?
There are two types of commuter passes.
- A Transpass enables you to travel and transfer with no limit on buses, trolleys and subways within the City of
Philadelphia
- A Trailpass offers you unlimited travel up to the zone shown on the face of the pass on suburban bus routes,
Regional Rail trains and all transit routes within the City
What are the costs of these passes through payroll deduction?
Passes are purchased at a 10% discount through payroll deduction. A breakdown of current costs by type and zone can be obtained
from the Transportation and Parking Office by calling 898-8667.
How will I receive my pass each month?
Passes for each upcoming month can be picked up at the Transportation and Parking Office (Suite 447A, 3401 Walnut St.) beginning
on the 25th and continuing through the end of the preceding month. Valid identification will be required.
What if I need to cancel my participation in the program?
Cancellation is your responsibility and must be communicated in writing to Transportation and Parking at least one (1) month in
advance. Participation in the COMPASS Program is ongoing until proper notice of cancellation is received. There are no
refunds for a partial month.
How do I sign up?
Simply fill out the Authorization Form at least five weeks before the month you wish to receive your first pass. The form is
available at the Transportation and Parking office in Suite 447A at 3401 Walnut St.
SPECIAL NOTE: This commuter pass discount program is provided as an alternative to driving personal vehicles to Penn. Regular
full-time faculty and staff who currently have Penn parking permits may not participate in the COMPASS Program simultaneously.
For additional information regarding the Compass Program, call the Transportation and Parking office at 215-898-8667.
