About the ACUC
Founded in 1978 as the Association of Faculty Clubs, the organization initiated one of the first established multi-club reciprocal programs, recognizing the value of extending club membership privileges to include access to other campus clubs. In 2002, the Association reorganized as the Association of College and University Clubs (ACUC). The purposes of this non-profit association are to facilitate reciprocal relationships between university clubs, to provide information to persons connected with management of university clubs, to establish a periodical promoting the interchange of ideas and information necessary to achieve Association goals and to promote and encourage efficient and successful university club management.
The ACUC Reciprocal Agreement
All clubs belonging to the Association of College and University Clubs recognize and honor the Reciprocal Agreement, which allows individual members of a club to visit any of the other Clubs within the Association. The Reciprocal Agreement encourages fellowship among university communities, and enhances communications between associated clubs.
Reciprocal Arrangements
Each Club in the Association is a unique reflection of the university community it serves. The facilities and services available, as well as hours of operation, are quite different in each Club. To insure an enjoyable visit to another Club, it is important to telephone ahead whenever possible to find out when the Club is open, and what services are offered to a visiting member. Often the Manager of a Club can assist members in arranging a visit to another Club by calling in advance. Individual Clubs may have restrictions in the use of their facilities, or in the frequency of visits, which should be respected. Please check with the Club Manager regarding reciprocal privileges at another club.
Reservations
Reservation policies vary widely from Club to Club. While larger Clubs may be able to graciously accommodate visitors without reservations, often a smaller or busier Club cannot. Dress codes for dining also vary from region to region. Again, the best policy is to telephone ahead for specific information.
Payment for Services
As billing procedures are also unique in each Club, visiting members are generally expected to pay for all cocktails, meals and other services at the time of their visit. Most Clubs are not prepared to invoice for services rendered. Some do accept credit cards and checks. If you need to make other arrangements, please contact the Club you wish to visit in advance.
